Ulam (“the app”) is a meal-planning app published by an independent developer (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what the app does and does not do with your information.
The short version
Ulam is an offline app. Your recipes, meal plans, ingredients, journal entries, and photos are stored only on your device. We do not run a server, we do not have accounts, and we cannot see your data. The single exception is purchase processing, described below.
What stays on your device
Everything you create in Ulam is written to a private database and a private photo folder inside the app’s own storage on your device:
- Recipes, ingredients, and notes
- Meal plans and calendar entries
- Journal entries
- Photos you take or pick for a recipe
- App settings, such as theme and display size
This data is never uploaded by the app. It is included in your device’s own backup if you have iCloud Backup or Google backup enabled — that backup is handled by Apple or Google under their own privacy policies, not by us.
Deleting the app deletes this data. There is no copy anywhere else.
Camera and photos
Ulam asks for camera and photo library access for two things:
- Recipe photos. A photo you take or select is copied into the app’s own storage and stays there. It is not uploaded.
- Scanning a shared recipe code. The camera reads a QR code that another person shows you. The scan happens on your device; no image is stored or sent.
You can deny or revoke these permissions in your device settings. The app works without them; you simply cannot add photos or scan codes.
Sharing recipes
Ulam lets you share a recipe as a QR code or as text you copy. The recipe is encoded on your device and passed directly to whoever you show it to or paste it for. Nothing goes through us, and no copy is kept by the app.
If you paste a shared recipe into another app — messages, email, notes — that app handles it under its own privacy policy.
Purchases and subscriptions
Ulam offers an optional paid upgrade. Purchases are processed by Apple App Store or Google Play, and managed on our side by RevenueCat, Inc., which tells the app whether your purchase is active.
Ulam has no accounts and does not ask for your name, email, or payment details. For purchase handling, RevenueCat receives:
- An anonymous app user ID generated on your device
- Purchase and subscription receipt data from Apple or Google
- Basic device and app information, such as platform, app version, and country
We never receive your payment card details. Apple or Google handle payment.
If you never make a purchase, the app still contacts RevenueCat on launch to check whether an entitlement exists for your store account. No personal data of yours is sent in that check beyond the items listed above.
What we do not do
- We do not use analytics, tracking, or advertising SDKs.
- We do not collect crash reports.
- We do not build profiles or track you across apps or websites.
- We do not sell or share your personal information.
- We do not require an account, email address, or phone number.
Restoring purchases
Because there are no accounts, “Restore Purchases” asks Apple or Google whether your store account already owns the upgrade. This is the recovery path after a reinstall or on a new device.
Children
Ulam is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Since the app stores data only on the device and collects no personal information, no such data reaches us.
Your choices and rights
- Delete your data: delete the app, or delete individual recipes, plans, and entries inside it.
- Revoke permissions: turn off camera or photo access in device settings.
- Manage your subscription: use the app’s Customer Center, or your Apple or Google account subscription settings.
- Purchase records: to ask about data held by RevenueCat, Apple, or Google, contact us at the address below and we will help where we can, or contact them directly using their policies linked above.
If you are in the EEA, UK, or a US state with a privacy law, you may have rights of access, correction, deletion, and portability. Because we hold no personal data about you, most requests are satisfied by deleting the app; for purchase records, contact us and we will assist.
Data security
Your data lives in your device’s app-private storage, protected by your device’s own security, including your passcode and device encryption. Keeping your device updated and locked is the main protection.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top and post the new version at the same address. Continued use of the app after a change means you accept the updated policy.
